Which Eating Pattern Should You Adopt? Hint: Not Low-Carb

It’s the start of the year, and many people are on diets in the hope that they can lose weight and
transform their bodies. Furthermore, there’s no shortage of “diet gurus” out there promising the world
and telling people they can lose weight without counting calories, tracking food consumption, or even
exercising.

While most people know that many of these diets are gimmicks, they can still fall foul of them anyway,
if they believe that there’s a good reason behind them. Take low carb diets, for instance, such as keto
or “paleo.” The general idea here is that carbohydrates disrupt our metabolism, making it much more
likely that we will develop diabetes and obesity.

The problem with this thesis is that it just isn’t true. It is not carbs in general that the problem, but the
fact that most people eat them in the refined form alongside a diet chock full of meat and fat. It’s this
deadly combination that creates the problem - not brown rice or whole rolled oats.

If you’re not sure what to eat, make sure you check out the following infographic. It defines what a fad
diet is, how it is dangerous, and what you should eat instead. In general, it’s a good idea to stick to
tried-and-tested eating patterns that have served people well over the generations. The traditional
Meditteranean diet, for instance, is widely considered one of the best in the world, given the health
and longevity of people living on various Meditteranean islands in the past. Read on to find out more.
