Choose Your Sponge Flavor

The base of your cake will contribute massively towards the overall taste and aesthetic, so it’s vital that
you can choose the right sponge flavor if you want a delicious birthday treat. There are so many different
sponge flavors for you to choose between, including but not limited to:

  • Red velvet - chocolate style cake traditionally red from raw cocoa, but nowadays the color is
achieved through beetroot juice or artificial food coloring.

  • Vanilla - a light, airy sponge with a gentle flavor that pairs well with almost every topping type.

  • Chocolate - a deluxe, deep brown sponge that’s super indulgent.

  • Carrot - an interesting mix of flavors (including carrot), with its own unique texture.

  • And so much more!

If you’re unsure about what sponge flavor you need for your birthday cake, then have a little think about
your own unique preferences. What’s your favorite cake type? How long do you want to spend baking?
How much are you willing to spend on ingredients? All of these influencing factors can help you to make
the right decision for your birthday cake base. It may also be helpful to have a little look into what's
trending in the world of cake right now, as experts like
Anne and Carl Deane can help you to bake the
most stylish birthday cake around.

Start Your Decorations

Once you’ve baked your sponge and it’s all cooled down ready for icing, it’s time to start thinking about
what decorations you’d like to add. Cake decorating is often much more time consuming and complex
than the act of cake baking, so make sure you give yourself a good few hours to complete your
decorations. It’s likely that you’ll begin with an icing base to build from, so choose your icing flavor and
icing type. From indulgent buttercream to rich ganache,
there are so many icing options to help you take
your birthday cake to a whole new level. It’s a good idea to cover your entire cake in icing, as this will
make it much easier to decorate further, while helping to keep your birthday cake fresher for longer, too.
Add a few extra finishing touches to your cake that help it to stand out from the crowd - this will likely
depend on your skill level, as decorating isn’t easy, but with the right equipment you have a good shot
at getting an attractive end result. Use piping bags to create icing flowers, and use things like
fresh fruit,
candy or chocolate, too.

Don’t forget to add your candles to your birthday cake when it’s all ready to go! Good luck with your
baking project.

How to Live a Healthy Life During the Winter

The winter can be cold and inhospitable; it can also be tough to stay healthy thanks to winter cravings
and changes in the body; that said, creating a healthy lifestyle, eating plenty of fish, and planning your
meals are one of the best ways to stay healthy and nourished in the winter.

Flight Flu With Food

The flu is pretty much guaranteed in winter; that’s why clinics and medical staff make a point of rolling
out the flu jab for vulnerable people. Whether you receive the jag or not, it makes sense to eat lots of
healthy food as this can support your immune system and help you recover faster.

The immune system is not like the circulatory system or the digestive system; in other words, it is not
an interconnected thing that you can locate, but it is still a system of cells and tissue that detect threats
to the body; you can support the cells with fruits, fish, and leafy greens in winter.

Eat Plenty of Fish

Amino acids are the building blocks of life; the body uses these to create proteins that support the
immune system and much more. If you want to support your immune system in the winter, you can
eat foods that contain high quantities of amino acids, such as food with plenty of fish.

Fish is the number one way to support your immune system in winter; quality fish from Premier Catch
contains key amino acids for your diet, but it also contains A vitamins, B vitamins, and omega-3 to
improve brain function and skin quality. Fish also makes a delicious meal for all.

Eat Five a Day

Staying healthy during the winter or in any season is easy when you eat your five a day. The World Health
Organisation recommends eating around 400 grams of fruits and vegetables every day to give your body
the nutrition it needs to function properly and avoid common illnesses.

Some of the most common illnesses in the winter are the common cold, influenza, and pneumonia, all of
which can be prevented with a healthy lifestyle that contains plenty of fruits and vegetables.
Eating five a day is a simple dietary formula that supports a healthy system.

Avoid Comfort Eating

In winter, the days become shorter, and the temperatures drop substantially; this has an effect on the
body, causing sleep patterns to change as well as dietary requirements; you might find that you are
putting on some extra weight at the same time you might crave some fatty foods.

This is perfectly normal, but there are some simple ways to avoid comfort eating and maintain a healthy
diet. Of course, you will want to maintain a healthy diet throughout the day, but if you feel like snacking
in-between meals, try drinking some milky tea or eating some soup instead.

Cooking comfort foods is an important aspect of the winter diet. Comfort food is like a hug for the soul, and it is behind most winter weight gain situations. Thus, if you are craving the comfort of rich and high-calorie Grandma’s recipes, you may be pleased to know that Tamme McCauley has got a few ideas on how to make your favorite comfort foods healthy.

Meal Planning

Planning your meals in the winter is an excellent way to maintain your health and weight over the festive
season. Snacking and unplanned eating is where you accumulate calories, but you can control your diet
more easily with a schedule for meals and some prepared in the freezer.

How You Can Get Back to Living After Being Ill

It can be quite a challenge to get back to living the way you are used to after being ill. Long- COVID
is a perfect example. But there are some tried and tested methods that will help.

Get Your Finances Back on Track

No one should feel bad about being in debt. When you think about credit cards, most people live in debt.
But a lot of debt is guaranteed to make your life hard. And having a lot of debt not only hurts your finances
but also hurts your standard of living, limits what you can eat, and makes you anxious and stressed out.
None of these will help you get better as you
start your recovery. So make it a top priority to pay off your
debts, and you'll have some further peace of mind later.

Embrace Your Loved Ones

Family members and friends can only carry so much of your serious problems, like being addicted to
painkillers, before they have had enough. So it's a good thing if you're still talking. But even if you aren't,
if you are committed to changing your life, your friends and family will be glad to see you again. But know
that it can take time to build trust after really bad behavior. But if you stay true to yourself and start over,
anything is possible on your new journey ahead.

Get Back to Living with the Things You Enjoy

Having a job is a great way to keep your mind off your worries and get back on track where money is
concerned. However, in your spare time, when you finish work and when you start again, you can be
distracted by very bad ideas. Some of these are wallowing in the past, problems with
staying motivated,
and worrying about things that might or might not happen. So, to fill your hours and make your life more
enjoyable, you should do something you love.

Try to Keep Busy with Work

Getting a job gives you the stability you need to get your life back in order. But if you have a mental illness
or an addiction, you might be out of work for some time. And long breaks between jobs make it much
harder to find a new one. You can volunteer to help people, do freelance work online, or go to school to
learn new skills. Getting back into employment lets you focus your best skills toward something you
appreciate, so you can go back to work and earn.

Know When to Ask for Help

It's never easy to ask for help because you have to admit that you have a problem. But it's the most i
mportant thing you can do to make your life better. No matter where you live, you can get professional
help. No matter where you live, there are many places where you can get
private rehab and counseling.
But it's hard to know when to ask for help. Reach out for help if your work is affected, if your emotions
are all over the place, or if you have depression or anxiety.

Summary

You must take your time when trying to get back to living standards after an illness. First, address
finances to ease the burden, do the things you enjoy, and don't be afraid to seek help.

also be stored in the fridge or freezer for weeks or months, holding flavor.

To make a winter stew collect the vegetables needed; these include potatoes, carrots, onions, herbs and

outside. Chocolate pudding is an excellent choice of dessert for a Sunday meal or a special dinner
over the festive season. Consult a popular recipe book to make the best dessert.

Fun Ways to Stick to a Diet

Sometimes just the word diet is enough to turn you off. It has negative connotations of feeling hungry to
eating things that taste like cardboard. This is obviously not going to do you any favors. The thing is,
dieting doesn't always have to be so difficult. If you are a little
creative and prepared to think outside the
box a bit, then you can make it more endurable. The good news is that there are many ways to make your
diet a lot more fun, and if it's fun, you are far more likely to succeed in your weight loss goals. So, let's
take a look at some of them:

Pixabay

Try New Things

How many of you go to the fruit and vegetable aisle and always buy the same old things? Well there is a
wide range of fruit and
vegetables that you have never tried out there. Why not pick something unusual
up, or better still, get the kids to pick some if you have them? Whatever you get, find a few recipes and
mix it up a bit. Also, why not try a few new things from the dieting ailse, or how about a little bit of
vegetarian food, or vegan food. Al these things can reduce that calorie count significantly. And you never
know, you might find that you really love it. A spit bean burger, for instance, can be a great alternative to a
beef burger.?

Spice it Up

Vegetables, for instance, don't have to be a dull affair. Try adding a few of your favorites to a wok with
some light-calorie cooking spray along with some common garden herbs and spices from your cupboard.
The result? Stress-free, low-calorie, great-tasting food. Another tip is to completely miss the meat and
carbs. With the right spices and vegetables, you honestly won't miss them

Try the Diet or Vegetarian Ranges

When you go to a restaurant, you can always choose their diet ranges. There is always a vegetarian or
vegan option, for example. Vegetarian and vegan food tends to have a lot fewer calories in it than the
meat alternative. In fact, swapping to an entirely vegetarian diet can make it far easier to lose weight or
remain a healthy weight. Although you may feel that this is no fun, it could actually be a lot of fun. You
tend to have to be a lot more creative with vegan food, and you also end up experimenting with flavors
a lot more. When you go to a restaurant, you can also choose options like the
Pizza Hut Keto diet option.
So this means that you don't have to completely forgo fast food. You just need to pick the right things.

Drink More

Instead of always having that roll or sandwich, have a drink instead. You should really try drinking water.
However, if water bores you, you can always start out with fruit juices, milk or diet cola until you are ready to
cut down to water. Filing up on a liquid can take away those hunger pangs, and it will help you stick to your
diet.

7 Ways We Can Make Desserts “Healthier”

Image - CC0 Licence

Dessert is, for so many of us, the reason we get through our mains. However, we've got to understand that dessert time is not the best for our bellies. It's a good idea to figure out little changes that can make your dessert healthier. With this in mind, here are a few things that can give your dessert an upgrade.

Infusing It

Many people try to infuse dessert with something healthier, like fruit, but some people like the idea of infusing their food with CBD oil. This is something that has been very popular in recent years. It's also important to note that CBD is different from THC, which are both components of the marijuana plant, and with THC, there are different levels, especially in the Delta strain. The different levels of Delta THC, such as Delta 9 THC, denotes a different strength, but if you want to upgrade your foods for health or to help you relax, you could certainly infuse it with CBD or THC. Be aware that THC is the compound that gets you high. If you're focused on your health, stick with CBD.

Use a Different Flour

There is a wide variety of gluten-free flours out there that can give your dessert an upgrade. Some people like to eat gluten-free because it makes them feel better in themselves. Instead of using processed flour, you can go for almond flour or whatever suits your tastes. It's important to note that some people can easily digest gluten, but if you feel any symptoms of gluten intolerance, for example, feeling tired, headaches, or bloatedness, you could benefit from upgrading your flour.

Add More Fruit

A very simple way to make desserts healthier is to have more fruit in them. Of those, we have to bear in mind the sugar content of the dessert itself in comparison to the fruit, but there are things we can do that get the balance right, while giving you that sweet cake with a bit of naughtiness. For example, passion fruit is a very tasty fruit that can easily be scooped into vanilla ice cream. A very effective yet simple dessert that may give you the kick you need. It's vital to remember that when we are going for desserts that we only have a little bit of what you fancy. Some people don't know when to stop, but this is why we've got to think about eating to the point where we are satisfied, not full. Once you feel satisfied, put down the spoon or fork.

Make Ice Cream With Frozen Fruit

This is a great tool to get children to eat more fruit. You can blend ice cream in with fruits, but you can also use fruits to make ice cream in itself, for example, frozen bananas that still have that texture of ice cream. You can also make desserts using avocado, as this adds a creaminess to it.

Use Dark Chocolate

A great dessert that works well with avocado is blending avocado with dark chocolate, which creates a wonderful creamy mousse and it's full of good fats. In fact, if you are making cakes, swapping out milk chocolate for dark chocolate is a very simple way to increase your antioxidant levels. For those who are on a health kick, dark chocolate can be your saviour because it gives you the chocolatey hit you need, while also making the dessert feel a little bit naughty at the same time!

Cook With Natural Sweeteners

There are many natural sweeteners out there. Natural sweeteners like honey or agave nectar are still loaded with sugar, but they have a few more health benefits. For example, honey is a natural humectant and can be very useful when you have a cold, but it's vital to remember that you can't just consume slice after slice of honey cake thinking it will kill your cold!

Use Coconut Oil Instead of Margarine

A lot of people opt for unhealthy processed spreads that have a lot of oil so instead of opting for margarine you could use coconut oil which is full of good quality saturated fats, which we must note is not a bad thing anymore. In fact, when it comes to baking you should be using butter because butter is good for you and is back on the menu!

We can use some of these tricks to make our desserts healthier, but we have to remember that if we think we're going to go on a health kick by upgrading our desserts in some way, it would be like making fast food healthier: it isn’t possible! If you want to be healthier, the best thing is to reduce your sugar intake.

Ways to Ensure You're Eating and Drinking Healthy

It's no secret that eating and drinking healthy is essential for your overall health. But it can be tough to know where to start, especially if you're not sure what constitutes "healthy." The term "healthy" is relative, and what works for one person might not work for another. However, some general tips can help everyone make healthier choices regarding food and drink.

Via Pexels

One way to ensure you're eating and drinking healthily is by making sure you're getting enough fruits and vegetables. It's recommended that adults eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables per day. This can seem like a lot, but it doesn't have to be complicated! A serving of fruit is about the size of your fist, while a serving of vegetables is about the size of your cupped hand. So, if you have a big breakfast that includes a banana, an orange, and a side of spinach, you've already met your quota for the day!

Another way to make sure you're eating and drinking healthily is by limiting your intake of processed foods and sugary drinks. Processed foods are often high in unhealthy fats, sodium, and sugar. They can also be low in important nutrients like fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Sugary drinks, such as soda, energy drinks, and sweetened coffee beverages, are also high in calories and can contribute to weight gain. Instead of processed foods and sugary drinks, opt for whole foods like fruits, vegetables, lean protein sources, and healthy fats. And instead of sugary drinks, choose water, unsweetened tea, coffee, or sparkling water.

Water is especially important because it helps keep our bodies hydrated and functioning properly. If you are drinking water out of a tap, make sure that it is from a safe source and that you are using a water filter to eliminate any contaminants. A while back, there was an issue about contaminated water at Camp Lejeune, so if you live in an area where the water is contaminated, it is best to use a filter.

Another important way to make sure you're eating and drinking healthy is by paying attention to food and drink labels. Nutrition labels can help you make informed decisions about the foods and drinks you consume. They provide information about a product's calories, fat content, sodium levels, fiber content, and more. Use nutrition labels to help you limit your intake of unhealthy ingredients like saturated and trans fats, added sugars, and sodium.

Finally, remember that moderation is key! You don't have to deprive yourself entirely of the foods and drinks you enjoy. Instead, make sure that you're consuming them in moderation and balance. For example, if you have a sweet tooth, satisfy it with a small piece of dark chocolate or some fresh berries instead of a candy bar or cake. And if you love salty snacks, reach for nuts or seeds instead of chips or pretzels. By making smart choices most of the time, you can still enjoy your favorite foods and drinks while maintaining a healthy diet overall!

Following these tips will help set you on the right path to eating and drinking healthier! Just remember that everyone is different, and what works for one person might not work for another. The most important thing is to be mindful of what you're eating and drinking and to make choices that are best for your overall health!

4 Healthy Fats Great For Your Body

There are a lot of fats in the world, but some are healthier than others. While we're starting to become more aware of what types of fats we should and shouldn't eat, it can still be difficult to know exactly which ones are healthy and which aren't.

So here's the scoop: there are four types of healthy fats that have been shown to have beneficial effects on your health and improve your overall well-being. Let's take a look at these four lovely little unsaturated fatty acids!

Monounsaturated fat

Monounsaturated fats are a type of fat that is found in foods like olive oi (see Kyneton Olive Oil) , canola oil, avocados, and nuts. They have been shown to have many health benefits for the body, including decreasing your risk of heart attack and stroke.

They also help improve insulin resistance and lower cholesterol levels. This improves your overall heart health and reduces the risk of developing diabetes. Monounsaturated fats are also known to reduce inflammation in the body which can help reduce pain and stiffness in your joints as well as soreness after exercise or physical activity.

Polyunsaturated fat

Polyunsaturated fats are great for your body and health because they help reduce inflammation, promote brain function, and lower cholesterol.

Polyunsaturated fats are considered good fats because they are associated with a lower risk of heart disease, obesity, and other chronic diseases. They are made up of two or more double bonds in the molecule's carbon chain. This means that polyunsaturated fats can be liquid at room temperature and have a low melting point.

Many of the foods we eat contain polyunsaturated fats: fish, nuts, seeds, avocado, and olive oil. These fats play an important role in our bodies by controlling blood cholesterol levels and reducing inflammation throughout the body.

Omega-3 fatty acids

Omega-3 fatty acids are great for your body and health because they help keep your heart healthy, reduce inflammation and help prevent cancer.

Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to be beneficial for the heart and cardiovascular system because they lower blood pressure, slow down plaque build-up in arteries and help reduce the risk of having a stroke or heart attack. They also have anti-inflammatory properties which can help reduce pain and swelling that can occur with inflammation.

Omega-3 fatty acids are great for preventing cancer because they help our cells communicate with each other, which helps to prevent abnormal cell growth that could lead to cancerous tumors forming in our bodies.

Unsaturated fat

Unsaturated fats are beneficial to your body and health because they have been shown to improve cholesterol levels, reduce the risk of heart disease, and help prevent inflammation. Unsaturated fats are those that contain a double bond between two carbon atoms. They are found in nuts, seeds, fish, avocado, and vegetable oils like olive oil or canola oil.

These fats do not cause a buildup of plaque in arteries as saturated fats do. Instead, unsaturated fats improve the cholesterol levels in your blood by transporting bad cholesterol away from your arteries and toward the liver where it can be broken down for elimination through bile acids.

They also help reduce inflammation by decreasing the production of cytokines (which cause inflammation). Unsaturated fats also decrease platelet aggregation which is another way these fats prevent inflammation from occurring within the body.

3 Tricks To Make Fast Food Healthier For You

Image Link (CC0 License)

Before we dive into things, here’s a little disclaimer for you all to read:

Traditional fast food places will never be ‘healthy’. They’re not designed to provide you with healthy meals and you shouldn’t expect them to. As a result, we’re not supposed to eat out at fast food joints all the time. They should be a one-off thing we enjoy now and then!

Having said that, there are ways you can make fast food healthier for you. Remember, this won’t make it the healthiest thing in the world, but it can stop the food from being absolutely terrible. This way, you can enjoy your little treat without feeling as guilty as you normally would.

So, what exactly can you do? Here are three tricks to try the next time you order food:

Ask for no salt with your fries

If you’re ordering fries from a fast-food restaurant, ask the people if they can give you them without any salt. Some places can do this, but others might not - it depends on how they cook the fries. Usually, most places will cook them and then add a load of salt after to make them taste nicer.

The problem is they add too much salt, making these fries insanely bad for you. If you get them with no salt, you lower the sodium content of the meal, making it better for your heart.

Order pizza without the cheese

This may seem blasphemous to a lot of you, but ordering pizza without cheese is a great way to make it healthier. There are plenty of pizza places open late, making this fast food one of the most popular evening snacks. You feel peckish in the evening, so you order a nice big pizza. It tastes amazing, but all of the melted cheese is super bad for you.

For starters, the place might use really poor-quality cheese that’s high in fat. Then, it melts and you get all the fat and oil on there mixing together. It really is a recipe for cholesterol! Instead, have a marinara pizza - which is just a pizza with tomato sauce and no cheese. You can add toppings if you want, or put some on at home. You still get a delicious pizza, but without all the added fat and oil.

Don’t ask for sauces

This trick mainly applies to things like burgers, but it can apply to other types of fast food as well. Basically, when you get a burger, you have something that’s not crazily unhealthy. Sure, the burger is quite fatty and greasy, but it isn’t the worst thing in the world to eat.

The issue is when you start adding everything to the burger. Mainly, you get loads of really fatty sauces full of things that aren’t good for you. If you stop asking for sauces and get things plain, it will be way healthier. Then, you can add your own sauce at home, using low-fat and healthier versions.

See, it’s not impossible to take your favorite fast food meals and make them just a little bit healthier. You still get the pleasure of eating a nice treat, but without all the added guilt after.

Why Spicy Foods Can Be Great for Your Health

Spicy foods aren’t for everyone, but there are more benefits hidden below their surface than you might realize. So whether you’re a spice lover or someone who just can’t handle the heat, we’re going to take a closer look today at what spicy foods can do for your health and why they’re so good for it. So if you want to learn more about that, read on now.

It Can Combat Sugar Cravings

One of the most simple ways in which spicy food is good for you is in the way in which it stops you from craving other foods. Research has shown that when you eat spicy foods, you’re less likely to consider sweet foods filled with sugar afterwards. If you’re looking to cut back on your sugar consumption and make your diet healthier, this’ll help you out a lot.

A 13% Lower Incidence of Heart Disease

There’s also been research to show that people who eat spicy foods on a regular basis are less likely to suffer from heart disease and experience strokes in life. That research found a 13% decrease. It might not sound like much but if spicy foods really are behind the difference, it’s pretty impressive. So maybe eating spicy foods should be part of your plan for a healthier heart.

They Can Combat Inflammation in the Body

Inflammation is a problem for a lot of people in a lot of different ways; there’s no doubt about that. A lot of us experience inflammation in the gut and spicy foods are believed to be particularly good at helping to prevent that kind of inflammation. So it might be a good idea for you use spicy foods to your advantage if you’ve had issues with inflammation in the past.

It Speeds Up Your Metabolism

One of the things that spicy foods tend to do is speed up your metabolism. That’s something that helps you to process foods faster and it allows people to lose weight more easily too. People with slow metabolisms tend to store fat more easily and struggle harder to lose it. So maybe the key to weight loss is a Texas chili bowl and other spicy dishes.

Cumin and Turmeric Offer Antioxidant Benefits

Some of the spices that are often found in hot foods are known to provide very specific health benefits, specifically cumin and turmeric. That’s because they contain antioxidants which can help the body in many ways and help to keep cells in the body healthy. They’re key spices in all kinds of curries ans many Indian dishes. It’s another good reason to try out Indian cuisine and to cook with spices such as these.

As you can see, there are so many health benefits that come with eating spicy foods. Maybe you’ll want to try to get more of these foods into your diet now that you’ve read how effective they can be at protecting your health and keeping your body in good shape going forward.
